It’s a Brahms double bill tonight, his Clarinet Quintet and Serenade No. 1, showing two different sides of his personality.

Tonight’s concert is two sides of Brahms’ personality. His Clarinet Quintet is, on the surface, lush and beautiful, with some beautiful song-like tunes. But the overall impression is of something darker, more brooding, yearning. The Serenade is all smiles though – warm, outgoing and optimistic.
